Entry/Exit from the ELL Program

Entering the ELL Program
  • When your child registers for school in Ralston Public Schools you will fill out a home language survey.
  • If your family speaks a language other than English, you will be asked to sign a permission to test form.
  • An ELL teacher will test your child's English language proficiency.
  • If he/she qualifies, you will receive a letter stating what services your child will receive from the ELL program.

Exiting the ELL Program
  • In the spring, your child will take the English Language Development Assessment (ELDA) to measure their English language proficiency.
  • Students in grades three through six will also take the Nebraska State Accountability test (NeSA) in reading and math.
  • In the fall all scores are reviewed.
  • If your child receives proficient scores on the ELDA and/or NeSA AND is doing well on their classwork, they will be exited.
